About Us

Ax and I are both originally from Wisconsin, USA. We met during his freshman (in fact, only year) in college, since we were both in student government together. He and I went on some pretty "unorthodox" dates, such as trips to hardware stores. Our first official date was a trip to a department store so he could see what I looked like with makeup--since I don't wear any--and then to Olive Garden for dinner.

About halfway through the spring semester that year, we sat down to watch a bunch of war movies/military movies--because why not, right? After one of them, he told me he was joining the Navy. That he wanted to be EOD or search/rescue. Or a Corpsman. Needless to say, this was a godawful way to introduce me to the idea (after watching movie after movie of dead soldiers, thanks dear)...so understandably my first reaction was a resounding "NO".

The end of September 2011 he went to RTC. The day he left was the worst day ever: not only was this the last day I could see him (since I could visit the hotel he was staying at for the night), on the way up to the hotel my car overheated and ultimately died for good. On a freeway offramp. I was super stressed, he was nervous and scared, and it was probably the most awkward few hours together we'd ever spent.

I'll never forget the "made it safe" call and how scared he sounded. For someone who had been my rock for almost 8 months at that point...this was new. I was scared because he was scared!

Two months later, the day before Thanksgiving, I watched him march in formation into the drill hall, and the rest of that day is pretty much a blur. Thanksgiving with his mom's family (Italians!) was amazing.

He surprised me by coming home for Christmas, then surprised me again by proposing a few days before New Years. We got married in February 2012, and while it's difficult to be so far apart, I have never been a happier woman. After all the garbage I've had to put up with in life, I finally have someone who treats me as I should be treated (though I will argue that point with him endlessly), someone who treasures me, loves me for what I'm not as well as for what I am, and encourages me to grow in whatever way I choose.

Ax is ET Radio, and we are currently in Kings Bay, GA for our first duty station. It's gorgeous here! It's just us and a Boxer mix named Simon...who is more than a handful. No need for kids or more dogs (as much as I'd love another one...)! haha. :)
